Ken and Wendy Gordon

Ken and Wendy are on a first-name basis with many of their customers. And even first-time guests get a sense of how special the place is when Ken and Wendy visit the dining room and take the time to get to know the people for whom they’ve lovingly prepared a meal.

Ken is a skateboarding chef whose experience has been earned in a variety of settings, from a fast food kitchen at 15 to some of the finest restaurants in North Carolina. Wendy, his wife, business partner, catering planner and pastry chef, grew up in her family’s Southern food restaurant.

The Gamekeeper is very much a family affair and the couple’s deep respect for family, tradition, history and the environment resonates from the menu, the restaurant décor, the staff and the hospitality. Ken and Wendy work side-by-side in the Gamekeeper’s kitchen, creating the recipes that define the restaurant’s signature modern mountain cuisine. Without a doubt, their children will be “busting suds” when they are old enough. They juggle a hectic schedule with their 9-year old son Gus (an avid skateboarder and snowboarder) and their 4-year old daughter Josie Dare (a lover of painting, dancing and writing on furniture with permanent ink). Married for 17 years, Ken and Wendy have worked together at such places as J. Basul Noble in High Point, N.C.; Linville Ridge Country Club in Linville, N.C.; Roaring Gap Club, just outside Sparta, N.C.; and Caffe Phoenix in Wilmington, N.C
